Kaci Kranson scored 10 of her 26 points during an 18-0 run in the first half, and Scranton advanced to the third round of the NCAA Division III women’s basketball tournament as it rolled to a 70-49 victory Saturday against Bates in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
A layup by Kranson late in the first quarter started the decisive surge, which turned a 17-13 Scranton lead into a 35-13 advantage.
Kranson also grabbed 13 rebounds.
The Royals improved to 27-1.
Sarah Hughes led Bates (16-10) with 17 points. Elsa Daulerio had 13 points, nine rebounds and six assists.

MIDDLEBURY 3, COLBY 0: Kylie Quinlan broke a scoreless tie midway through the second period, and the second-seeded Panthers (20-5-1) added two goals in the final two minutes to secure a semifinal win over the third-seeded Mules (17-6-2) in a New England Small College Athletic Conference semifinal in Amherst, Massachusetts.
Middlebury goalie Sophia Will and Colby’s Mandy Busky both made 27 saves.
Zoe Pincelli and Sabrina Kim were the other goal scorers.
