STOW — Voters elected three new selectmen at the annual town meeting Saturday after the unexpected resignations of James Wilfong and Carl Lindblade, and Raymond Ryan not seeking reelection.

Succeeding them are Steve Dupuis, Rob Flint and Sarah Shute, who will lead the fewer than 400 residents of this small town in western Oxford County.

In his two-page resignation letter, Wilfong, the board chairman, thanked residents for allowing him to serve. “Personal health concerns and my realization of the rapid passage of time have helped me to make my decision,” he wrote.

Wilfong also wrote about the many accomplishments in town, such as road and maintenance projects, including replacing half the town culverts and opening a lot so the town could crush its own gravel and screen its own sand, saving $20,000 per year.

Wilfong also cited “fire and rescue services, the Lovell Library and Recreation Department, local food banks, and the other services that make the town a livable place. We also oversaw the successful efforts to bring fiber optics, telephone, and cable TV to the town of Stow, connecting us with the world. ”

There was no letter of resignation from Lindblade.

Voters approved forming a road committee to assist officials in overseeing repairs, plowing and budgeting for municipal roads. Isabel Stafford, Richard Tamaska, Matthew Hatch, Carl Drew and Troy Drew were elected to three-year terms.

Residents also passed a water extraction ordinance that limits the amount of water that can be removed from town. While no large-scale operation is planned, residents wanted to prevent any future project.

Voters adopted the proposed $894,000 budget, of which $512,000 will be raised through taxation.
