The March 16 Maine Sunday Telegram reported that the USDA canceled contracts to continue providing food and funding to Maine schools and nonprofits for three more years. Really? They’re attempting to save money by taking food from hungry kids? More shame on this new administration.
If these fat cats ever felt pangs of hunger, they’d know what it’s like for children to experience a tummyache, headache or low energy due to hunger. These are not ideal conditions in which little kids can fully learn.
The newspaper stated that one in eight Mainers — about 180,000 people — face hunger. That includes roughly 45,000 children, about 20% of the state’s total population under age 18.
The “system” is not broken, as Trump/Musk claim, but rather it’s built this way to further push poor populations into more despair.
