Wow! An organization is willing to give our community $1.77 million to improve our infrastructure and provide technical training. Maine Connectivity has awarded Franklin County Adult Education funds to purchase the former Arthur D. Ingalls School and create a hub for training, education and social services.
By renting undesignated space in the new location, the revenue will cover heating, electricity and maintenance at no cost to the taxpayer. In addition, Foster Tech can expand programming into vacated space at the high school for almost no cost to the local taxpayer.
Let’s look ahead five years from now and there are two options for our community’s future. One will be expanded opportunities for students of all ages, because we voted to purchase the Ingalls building with grant funding and created a maintenance fund to cover expenses.
The other option is voting on a referendum to build additional space at Mt. Blue High School for Foster Tech and Franklin County Adult Education for approximately $5 million totally covered by local taxpayers.
Aren’t we lucky we have a choice on March 24? I urge Regional School Unit 9 voters to purchase the Ingalls building and save taxpayers money.
