LEWISTON — Luiggi’s Pizzeria at 63 Sabattus St. is ready to reopen after a change in ownership and a total remodel of the legendary restaurant that has served Lewiston residents for seven decades. Luiggi’s opens Saturday at 10:30 a.m.

Zach and Keshia Pratt, the former owners of the restaurant boba on Lisbon Street, said they will keep the old recipes for sauces and pastas, pizza, calzones and Fergy sandwiches but plan on mixing things up a bit, in addition to sprucing up the decor, which has been totally refurbished — from a shiny new open kitchen and yes, even an upgraded bathroom.
“Same old recipes, just a fresher new look,” Keshia Pratt said in an interview with the Sun Journal, saying they plan on adding some new items as well, starting with a little New York deli experience.
“In New York deli style, there’s like a wholesale counter where you can buy local meats like shaved provolone and prosciuttos,” Zach Pratt said, “and our house-made meatballs by the pound, our local sausages by the pound.”
The Pratts plan on baking all their breads in-house, except for sourcing the Italian rolls from Sam’s. Sandwiches will now be offered with sides and there are plans for special deals three days a week like Friday Fergies — featuring the restaurant’s famous signature sandwich — Italian Wednesdays for 89¢ and spaghetti Mondays.
Luiggi’s will have a new signature dessert offering: homemade cannoli. Expect other desserts as well.
Zach Pratt has been working with Evan Mancini, who just opened Mancini’s Italian Deli on Park Street. They are talking about collaborating on Mancini’s homemade pasta in the future.
“The changes aren’t going to happen all at once,” Zach Pratt said, ”they’re happening over a course of time.” He said the meatballs might be bigger than what’s been offered in the past, but it’s one of the dishes customers would keep coming back for.

Longtime Luiggi’s favorites like lasagna, eggplant parmesan, spaghetti (yes, the bucket of spaghetti is back) and items like lasagna will be offered pre-packaged to take home and heat.
Hours will be Monday-Friday 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Saturday 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Luiggi’s will be closed on Sundays.
