DEAR SUN SPOTS: We would really appreciate your help with getting the word out about our upcoming Letters for Literacy Scrabble Fest. This is the 25th anniversary and we are hoping for a great turnout.
Join us Sunday, April 27, at the High Street Congregational Church, 106 Pleasant St. in Auburn, for an enjoyable afternoon of refreshments, prizes and good-natured Scrabble competition.
Arrive at 1 p.m. to sign in as play begins at 1:30. The Scrabble Fest ends at 4:30 p.m. Preregistration is required by Monday, April 21.
Scrabble fans are invited to help raise money for Literacy Volunteers by playing their favorite board game. This is Scrabble with a twist, as the competition features teams of two to four players collaborating over the same letter tray to try to outscore another multiperson team.
Participants can either form a team or register as an individual and be matched with a team that needs a player.
In honor of our 25th anniversary, we have added a Master Division for those who compete at tournament level. For players that are accomplished but do not compete at tournament level, we have the Pro Category, while more relaxed players should choose the Social Division. Players collect pledges to benefit adult literacy services in Androscoggin County, and the top fundraisers have a wonderful array of prizes to choose from. All proceeds raised by players are used to provide critically needed literacy services for adults in our community.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Regarding the person seeking a vintage turntable (March 25 Sun Spots), New England Hi-Fi in South Portland may be worth a call. Facebook Marketplace frequently has vintage turntables listed also.
As a hobby, I refurbish vintage dual turntables and have found many on Facebook Marketplace. Unfortunately at this time, I don’t have one that’s totally operational. It’s almost ready, but not quite.
Vintage can get you a quality turntable at a reasonable price, but like a vintage automobile, you’d better be able to maintain it or know someone who can. I hope Brian has considered this in his decision to buy vintage. — Don, Poland
ANSWER: Please notify Sun Spots if and when you have a turntable ready and I’ll let Brian know. He is aware of New England Hi-Fi and has assured me that he and his brother know how to care for these. His hope is that by spreading the word on his desire to have this, the right turntable will come along.
