HIGH POINT, N.C. – Janis Beverly Sewall Pitts passed away March 21, 2025, at her residence in High Point, N.C.

Janis was born in Richmond, Maine and was raised in Auburn, Maine. She graduated from Edgar Little High School where she participated in many activities and was a cheerleader. Janis attended Fisher College in Boston, Mass. and graduated with an associate’s degree.

Janis spent most of her professional career as a medical assistant in Greensboro, N.C. She was an excellent seamstress winning numerous blue ribbons at the Guilford County (North Carolina) Agricultural Fair for her quilt making and needlepoint. Janis loved dancing and socializing with family and friends. While Janis lived in North Carolina for most of her adult life, she never forgot her childhood hometown in Maine and visited often during her life. She loved to share stories of her childhood in Maine with her children and grandchildren.

Janis was married to her husband Richard (deceased) for 61 years. The couple parented three children together. Janis and Richard retired to coastal North Carolina in 1990. They both described this time as the best in their lives. They owned and operated an antique business while living on the coast for over 20 years.

Janis is survived by her daughter, Sue Reckert and her son, Joseph and his wife Melanie and their daughter Madeline; son Patrick and his wife Jennifer; grandson Daryl and granddaughter, Haley (children from predeceased son Lonnie) and Haley’s son Trent.

There will be a Celebration of Life to honor and remember Janis and Richard in May at the coast in North Carolina for immediate family only.
