DALLAS PLANTATION — The driver of a car that crashed and burned Saturday night off state Route 16 escaped without injury, Rangeley Fire Rescue Deputy Chief Steve Grant said Monday.

The driver of the Nissan Rogue was not immediately identified because the Franklin County deputy investigating the accident had not completed the report, Sheriff Scott Nichols Sr. said Monday.

The crash was reported about 8:45 p.m.

Grant said the vehicle went down a steep embankment before catching fire and burning in a wooded area. When firefighters arrived, it was engulfed in flames.

Firefighters worked to douse flames and stop them from spreading farther into the woods.

There were no injuries to the driver or fire and rescue personnel, according to a post by Lt. Camdan Carmichael on the department’s Facebook page.

The Rangeley department was assisted by firefighters from Eustis Fire Rescue Department.
