WOODSTOCK — At the Woodstock Town Meeting on March 31, Former Town Clerk Tonya Lewis of Bethel will be introduced as the town’s new Town Manager, succeeding longtime manager Vern Maxfield.

Lewis, who worked at the Woodstock Town Office from 2021 to 2023, has continued part-time support since. “I care about Woodstock,” she said. “Living here from 2010 to 2016, serving on the Woodstock Elementary School PTA, and my time at the Town Office have strengthened my connection to this community.”

Libby Eldred will remain Woodstock Deputy Clerk.

Since 2023, Lewis has been working at the Telstar High School office. She, her husband John, and their children, Lily, 13, and Madeline, 11, have lived in Tonya’s childhood home in Bethel since 2018.

Select Board members Ronald Deegan, Jeffrey Campbell Jr., and Robert McQueeney selected Lewis after Maxfield, who is retiring on July 31 after 43 years in town government, announced his departure. Maxfield’s 37-year tenure as Woodstock Town Manager will conclude with his retirement.

Lewis remarked, “For nearly four decades, Vern has been more than just an administrator; he’s been the heart of Woodstock, dedicating his leadership and care to every corner of our community. His commitment has been truly remarkable.”
