Steve Maheu pours syrup Wednesday afternoon that just came out of the evaporator inside the Ricker Hill Orchards Maple Sugar Shack on Buckfield Road in Turner. He was using a new vacuum filter that makes the process a lot faster, easier and more efficient. Maheu has already processed about 80 gallons of syrup and expects that with the continued good weather, he will probably end up with over 100 gallons this year. “Last year was a really good one and this year looks to be the same,” he said while shutting down the evaporator.
