100 years ago: 1925

“James Pyne pleaded not guilty in the Lewiston municipal court to a charge of vagrancy. He was held in $50 bonds for a hearing on the 26th of April. He was unable to furnish bonds and was committed to the county jail. Captain Picard asked for the continuance, explaining that the immigration authorities were going to take steps to deport him. He is alleged to be an alien, who after being deported to Canada last April crossed the border into the United States in June without permission.”

50 years ago: 1975

“In ceremonies not without religious overtones this morning at Androscoggin Superior Court, three young men were admitted to the Maine Bar.” Thomas M. Mangan and Mark L. Cuneo of Lewiston, and John P. Corbett of Brunswick, “were sworn in by Associate Justice Thomas E. Delahanty of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court, who urged them to use the powers of their office carefully. “Aid your fellow man and your community, participate in government, continue to work for freedom and fight oppression wherever you find it,” Delahanty told the new lawyers.

25 years ago: 2000

“Details of the new St. Dominic Regional High School, a $10.5 million complex near Lake Auburn, are to be unveiled Tuesday before a meeting of the (Auburn) Planning Board. … According to the (Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland)’s application with the city, the new school will be two stories high with about 72,500 square feet of interior space. … The new facility will replace the current school on Blake Street in downtown Lewiston.”
