As a practicing physician for over 35 years, there are some values I hold dear.
I value affordable and accessible health care for all people regardless of color, race, gender, age, geography, income, education, politics or other differentiation. I have seen much suffering, illness and premature death in my career due to lack of resources or availability of health care.
I value research and development, especially to improve the health and quality of life of all people. This includes medical research through the NIH, the CDC and the FDA.
I value efforts and initiatives to combat climate change, along with clean air and clean water, which are essential to our health, well-being and longevity, not only those for those living at present, but for all future generations as well.
I oppose any efforts to dismantle and remove elements of the federal government that foster these values. I oppose any and all efforts to trample the rights, health and well-being of others for personal gain. I concur with the elimination of fraud, waste and abuse, but efforts to do so must be done thoughtfully, with precision, care, research and follow-up evaluation.
I request President Trump stop his destructive efforts, and work with congressional members from both parties to foster these values and help improve the health, welfare and future of all Americans. This means upholding the Constitution in accordance with the oath he affirmed in taking office, promoting the general welfare of the population as stated in the Constitution’s Preamble.
