Every morning, I read the newspaper with my coffee. And, every morning I am shocked at what President Trump and his appointees are doing, especially the way that they marginalize certain groups of people.

My father was a front surgeon during World War II. His unit liberated Dachau. He didn’t tell me about this until the end of his life. When he did tell me, he described how the Germans neatly stacked 2,000 bodies near the camp’s railroad depot. I’m just glad that my father isn’t alive to see what’s happening in this country today.

So, what can we do? Stay informed, stick with good people, contribute to your community. We’ll survive this. We are a good people, and our democracy, although it is now being sorely tested, is resilient.
