Poland pitcher Phoebe Paradis recorded 10 strikeouts and had four hits in the Knights’ 16-3 season-opening softball win over Cape Elizabeth on Thursday in Cape Elizabeth.
Olivia Rioux added three hits and Carly Jarvais had two — a double and a triple — for Poland (1-0). The Knights’ five-inning victory was highlighted by a 10-run third inning.
Molly McKibben hit a triple for Cape Elizabeth (1-0). Paradis allowed only four hits to the Capers.
GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 9, FRYEBURG ACADEMY 3: The Patriots pulled away in the final two innings of their win over the Raiders in Fryeburg.
Audrey Getchell pitched a complete game and smacked a double for Gray-New Gloucester. The Patriots led 4-3 after five innings, then plated four in the sixth and one in the seventh. Madalyn Patrick also doubled and was won of three Gray-NG players with two hits.
Azalea Grant had three hits for Fryeburg.
BASEBALL
CAPE ELIZABETH 6, POLAND 1: Jameson Bryant struck out 11 over five innings as the Capers won an opener against the Knights in Cape Elizabeth.
Joseph Grela led Cape’s offense with two doubles and two RBI.
Cade Johnson hit a double for the Knights.
FRYEBURG ACADEMY 6, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 1: Three Fryeburg pitchers combined on a one-hitter as the Raiders opened the season with a home win against Gray-New Gloucester.
Brady Chappell pitched the first four innings for the Raiders and yielded only a fourth-inning double by Gray-NG’s Jacob Mulry. Oliver Allocco followed with two hitless innings, and Oliver Dean closed out the win.
Alex Allain, Dean and Jagger Helwig each had two hits for Fryeburg. David Rosales drove in three runs with two sacrifice flies and a groundout.
