LEWISTON — With a relentless offense that scored early and often, Thornton Academy earned its first girls lacrosse win of the season Tuesday, posting a 20-1 victory against Lewiston.
The attack started and ended hot for the Trojans (1-1), who produced eight goals in the first quarter and were ahead 11-0 before Lewiston junior Anna Courtemanche scored her team’s only goal late in the third quarter.
Every Trojans attacker and midfielder in the starting lineup scored a goal, with 12 different players finding the net. Thornton sophomore Oceanna LaMarre led with three goals and four assists. The Trojans were coming off a double-overtime 10-9 loss against Falmouth in last week’s season opener.
“It was really great, because a lot of us have such great potential and our last game against Falmouth, we didn’t really get to use that as much,” LaMarre said. “But this game, we really got to incorporate a lot of our other teammates, and everyone got to score a goal.”
How it happened

Notable quotes
• “Last year, we were (said to be) in a rebuilding year, and we tried to fight that really hard. We didn’t succeed very often, but we only really have four freshmen that are starting consistently, playing consistently. We have so many other girls on the field; there’s 12 (players) on the field, and only those four freshmen play year-round, consistently. We had so many returners who played the summer and played in the fall, and it really made a difference.” — Thornton coach Katie Sargeant
• “No matter what the score was, everyone had each other’s back, lifting each other up. No one got down, no palms up, no sticks thrown, everyone had each other’s backs, so that’s what I’m really proud.” — Lewiston coach Jeremy Finney
• “One of our teammates, Sophia Sirois, she normally is on the draw circle with me, but we ended up switching off so she ended up taking the draw. There was a really awesome moment where she took the draw, it bounced off the top of her stick, and I grabbed it right over her head with a great opportunity to go in and grab a goal.” — Thornton sophomore Oceanna LaMarre
