Frederick L. Spector
RAYMOND – Frederick L. Spector, 98, passed away on Friday, April 18, 2025, at his home with his wife by his side.
He was born Oct. 6, 1926, in Boston, Mass., the son of the late Noah and Lena (Elman) Spector. He married Katrina Page in June of 2020.
Frederick proudly served our country during WWII. He entered the U.S. Army Air Force at the first opportunity in March of 1945. He served as a ground aircraft observer in France and Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1946 after suffering shrapnel wounds.
He graduated from Northeastern University in 1954 with a BS in electrical engineering. In 1959, he received his teaching certificate following his master’s in education from Bridgewater State College in 1973.
Fred was a lifelong learner and teacher. His interests included Egyptology, WWII, as well as computer science. Fred was known for his gentle and kind nature. He was always ready to bring out the best in others with encouragement and patience.
At the age of 12 he learned to sail on the Charles River in Boston. This fostered a lifelong love of sailing. In fact, he continued his years sailing “Tootsie Too” up and down the coast from Massachusetts to Maine among the best years of his life. He loved to travel and explore, enjoying road trips in the U.S. and abroad. He joined the Masons first serving in Mansfield, Mass., and throughout Maine from 1963-2003.
Fred made his home in Mansfield and on Cape Cod, Mass., before moving to Raymond, Maine in 1985.
He was predeceased by his loving parents; siblings Max, Brody, Sarah, Simon, Fannie and Joseph; his two sons Lawrence and Daniel; his wives Rachel and Sarah; his stepson Thomas.
He is survived by his wife Katrina Spector; a stepson Timothy; many step-children and step-grandchildren; along with many extended family and friends. The family will hold visitation on Saturday May 3, 2025, from 2 to 4 p.m. with a service starting at 4 p.m. at the Oxford Hills Church of Christ, 140 Paris Hill Rd., South Paris. Burial will take place in the future at the Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery with military honors. For those unable to attend, his service will be livestreamed on his obituary page.
The family would like to thank the Veteran’s Home-Based Primary Care and Andwell Hospice for the excellent care they provide to Fred.
