HEBRON — Fire crews contended with cluttered conditions and a potentially live power line Thursday afternoon as they battled a brush fire that raged through the woods along Douglass Drive.

The fire was first reported at about noon. When firefighters arrived, they found flames spreading into the woods in the area of Douglas Drive and Back Street.

A few outbuildings and various items were burned by the flames, but no homes were affected, fire officials said.

The area that burned is cluttered with junked cars, old snowmobiles, boats, at least one desk and a variety of sheds and other outbuildings, they said. There was also a power line running through the area, possibly connected to a generator, that firefighters feared might be live.

No one was hurt battling the flames. Shortly after 2 p.m., the fire was under control, though crews remained at the scene mopping up and checking for remaining hot spots.

The cause of the blaze was being investigated.

Firefighters from several area towns assisted at the scene, including Norway, which reportedly brought equipment specifically for battling forest fires to the scene. Also assisting were crews from Buckfield, Oxford, Minot, Hebron, Mechanic Falls and the Maine Warden Service.
