Monmouth took the lead with a five-run fifth inning and added two more in the sixth to keep its unbeaten record intact with a 10-7 softball win over St. Dominic Academy on Monday in Auburn.
Mustangs (6-0) pitcher Shannah Parsons earned her sixth win of the year. She also had a double and a single. Lillian Palleschi and Evelyn Pettengill added two hits apiece and Lauren Burnham hit a double for the Mustangs.
Emily Andrews doubled and tripled for the Saints (3-3), and Piper Croteau had a double and a single.
EDWARD LITTLE 10, BRUNSWICK 0: Lexi Kelsea and Kylee Lebrun each had three hits for the Red Eddies (4-3) in a six-inning victory over the Dragons (0-6) in Auburn.
Kelsea’s hits included a home run and a triple. She scored three runs. Lebrun doubled, tripled and scored twice. Allie Michaud added two hits and an RBI.
Kassidy Lobb pitched a two-hit shutout and struck out three for Edward Little.
Brunswick pitcher Caitlin Seitz struck out five and had one of the Dragons’ two hits.
MOUNTAIN VALLEY 12, MT. VIEW 2: Madisyn McLean drove in four runs to power the Falcons (6-1) past the Mustangs (0-6) in six innings in Rumford.
McLean had a game-best three hits, including a double. Maddy Brown tripled and drove in three runs during Mountain Valley’s five-run fourth inning, Kenzie Gammon finished with two hits, and Ali Mazza drew four walks and scored three runs.
Falcons starter Addison Libby pitched a complete game with five hits and five strikeouts.
Emily Richards led Mount View with two hits.
SKOWHEGAN 5, OXFORD HILLS 2: A four-run fifth inning propelled the River Hawks (7-1) to a key Class A North victory over the Vikings (6-3) in Paris.
Skowhegan, which is atop the region’s Heal point standings, garnered only five hits, led by two singles from Lydia Jones, but also drew seven walks. Pitcher Abi Carey struck out nine in seven innings to earn the win.
Attie Campbell led Oxford Hills with two hits, including a double. Madie Oliveira also doubled, and Kyria Morse had a pair of singles.
Morse also pitched and struck out 13 batters in seven innings.
LEWISTON 7, POLAND 4: Ava Dionne had two hits and picked up the win in the circle for the Blue Devils (4-4) against the Knights (2-6) in Poland.
Dionne allowed five hits and one earned run. She struck out five and walked one. Harlee Gasser picked up the save, and added a pair of singles and an RBI for Lewiston. Julie Philippon contributed a double and three RBI. Hayden Hughes singled and drove in a run.
Phoebe Paradis singled and doubled for Poland. Adelyn Bryant hit an RBI double, while Gabrielle Lenahan had two singles.
OLD ORCHARD BEACH, WINTHROP/MARANACOOK SPLIT: Sammi Darling and Emelia Michaud each had two hits, Jordyn Methot and Madison Duplisea drove in two runs apiece, and the Seagulls (1-3) earned a doubleheader split by posting a 7-6 win over the Rambling Bears (2-3) in Old Orchard Beach.
Methot hit a two-run single during a five-run first inning.
Emma Rice and Piper Clark each had two hits for the Rambling Bears.
In Game 1, Rice had four hits with three runs scored and an RBI as Winthrop/Maranacook earned a 10-6 win.
Charlotte Tyler chipped in with three hits, and Clark collected two hits and two RBI.
Kayla Townsend, Hannah Webber and Michaud each had two hits for Old Orchard Beach.
SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 11, MADISON 6: Santika Hodgkin doubled, tripled and had five RBI to help the Phoenix (3-3) bounce back from a five-run deficit to earn a victory over the Bulldogs in Madison.
Madison scored two runs in the bottom of the first and three runs in the second, but Spruce Mountain responded with two in the top of the third, three in the fourth and two in the fifth to take a 7-5 lead. The Phoenix put the game away with a four-run seventh inning.
Hodgkin, Samantha Martin, Bella Chretien and Aubrey Mitchell each scored two runs for the Phoenix. Tyoaka Hodgkin drove in two runs, while Chretien and Mitchell had an RBI apiece.
Spruce pitcher Rylee Turner earned the win by striking out 10 and allowing three hits and one run in 5 2/3 innings of relief.
The Bulldogs out-hit the Phoenix 10-7. Emma Anton led Madison with four hits, including a double, and had an RBI. Mackenzie Robbins added a double, singled twice and scored three runs, Jillian Linkletter had two runs and two hits, and Kenadi Berry singled and drove in two runs.
Linkletter also struck out eight in seven innings in the circle.
BASEBALL
BRUNSWICK 5, EDWARD LITTLE 2: Logan Garascia led the Dragons (6-2) with three hits and two RBI in their road win over the Red Eddies (3-5) at Central Maine Community College in Auburn.
Jimmy Cook added two hits and Bo Marini doubled for Brunswick. Liam Scholl pitched 6 2/3 innings to earn the win, striking out six and allowing six hits and one walk.
TJ Kramarz and Max Nelson finished with two hits apiece for Edward Little. Kramarz also drove in a run.
GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 6, DIRIGO 0: Liam Joyce pitched a two-hitter as the Patriots (5-3) shut out the Cougars (4-3) in Gray.
Joyce, a freshman, struck out nine and didn’t allow a walk. He also doubled for the only extra-base hit of the game.
Jacob Mulry had two hits for Gray-New Gloucester (5-3), Griffin Richmond drove in two runs, and Cole Thibodeau and Isaac Dunn had a hit and an RBI.
Caiden Skidgell and Trevor Crosby each had a single for Dirigo.
MADISON 11, SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 1: Jayden Horton struck out eight batters and pitched a two-hitter in the Bulldogs’ (4-3) six-inning win over the Phoenix (1-6) in Madison.
Madison scored three runs in the first then ended the game with an eight-run bottom of the sixth inning. Owhen Van Gordon led the offense with two hits and three RBI. Xavier Estes also drove in three runs and Kamdyn Norton had two hits and two RBI for the Bulldogs.
Max Labonte and Cole Richards had Spruce Mountain’s only hits.
MONMOUTH ACADEMY 12, ST. DOMINIC 4: Levi Laverdiere drove in two runs and scored three for the Mustangs (4-2) in their victory over the Saints (2-4) in Auburn.
Laverdiere got one of Monmouth’s five hits, all singles. The Mustangs also drew eight walks. Noah Schultz drove in three runs, and Zane Foyt knocked in two.
Laverdiere also earned a complete-game victory.
Riley Daigle drove in two runs and Curtis Wheeler and Kessel Lynn had two hits each for St. Dom’s.
