Monmouth scored twice in the bottom of the fifth inning on a groundout and a passed ball to beat rival Winthrop 4-2 in a Class C South baseball matchup Friday in Monmouth.
Levi Laverdiere drove in two runs and pitched five innings to earn the win for the Mustangs (6-2). He allowed two runs on two hits, struck out three and walked none.
Jaxon August hit a double and scored a run for the Ramblers (5-6).
CONY 4, EDWARD LITTLE 1: Three Rams (8-2) pitchers combined to limit the Red Eddies (4-6) to three hits in Auburn.
Max Tibbetts pitched the first four innings, striking out five, to earn the win. Jack Spellman pitched two innings and Jason Benedict earned the save with a scoreless seventh. Each Cony pitcher allowed a hit.
Trenton Hayward drove in two runs for the Rams. Matt Boston and Landen Perry each had one RBI. Parker Morin (triple) and Drew Linquist (double) had two hits apiece.
Isaac Jalbert drove in a run had two of Edward Little’s hits, while TJ Kramarz tripled for the other hit.
LAKE REGION 8, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 3: Brock Gibbons struck out 12 and allowed just one hit and one walk over six scoreless innings as the Lakers (6-2) defeated the Patriots (6-5) in Naples.
Shane Plummer paced the offense with three RBI. Plummer, Dylan Blair and Braydan Wilson all had two hits.
MARANACOOK 10, SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 9: Caldre Glowa tied the game with an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning and Alex Spaulding singled home the winning run as the Black Bears (5-3) rallied past the Phoenix (2-7) in Readfield.
Maranacook overcame a 7-0 deficit, but Spruce Mountain regained the lead in the top of the eighth on an RBI single by Connor Foss.
Glowa, Spaulding and Noah Longfellow all had two hits for the Black Bears.
Austin Armandi and Trent Lovewell both drove in two runs for the Phoenix.
SACOPEE VALLEY 5, ST. DOMINIC 3: Silas Nelson gave up three runs (two earned) on three hits, struck out five and walked two as the Hawks (5-3) beat the Saints (2-6) in Hiram.
Curtis Wheeler had two hits for St. Dom’s.
LEAVITT 10, MORSE 9: Tucker Harrington had three hits, Ryder Sawyer-Brown scored three times and drove in a pair and the Hornets (5-5) beat the Shipbuilders (5-4) in Turner.
Trent Holst added two RBI for Leavitt, which scored five times in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead.
Oscar Gallant had two hits and two RBI for Morse.
SOFTBALL
HALL-DALE 8, LISBON 2: Lucy Gray had two hits, two RBI, scored twice and earned the win as the Bulldogs (8-0) remained unbeaten with a win over the Greyhounds (6-1) in Farmingdale.
Gray allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits, while striking out eight and walking four. Jade Graham added two hits and two RBI, Emma Perry had two hits and Mira Skehan laced a double for the Bulldogs.
Aubriana Bright had a triple and an RBI for Lisbon. Pitcher Mackenzie Eaton struck out seven batters in six innings.
LAKE REGION 11, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 1: Vylet Robbins went 4 for 4 and Ava Cole drove in three runs as the Lakers (6-3) earned a six-inning victory over the Patriots (3-8) in Naples.
Abbi Nadeau chipped in with two hits, two RBI and two runs.
Madalyn Patrick got two of Gray-New Gloucester’s four hits.
MONMOUTH ACADEMY 13, OAK HILL 6: The Mustangs (8-0) remained unbeaten with a win over the Raiders (2-5) in Wales.
Rileigh Chase hit an RBI triple for Monmouth, while Lily Palleschi and Riley Smith had three hits apiece and Evelyn Pettengill and Lila Poussard had two hits each.
Pitcher Shannah Parsons earned her eighth win of the season, scattering eight hits and being backed up by error-free defense.
Ave Lemont had two hits for Oak Hill, which trailed by only two, 8-6, heading into the final inning before the Mustangs plated five runs in the top of the seventh.
YORK 17, POLAND 6: Maddie Fitzgerald hit a grand slam, and Piper Catanese belted two home runs and drove in three runs to lift the Wildcats (10-0) over the Knights (2-7) in a game shortened to five innings in York.
Nya Avery added three hits and three RBI, Lindsay Rivers had two hits and three RBI, and Bella Santini chipped in with two hits.
Brenna Galipeau-Eldridge had two hits for Poland.
ST. DOMINIC 15, SACOPEE VALLEY 1: The Andrewses and the Croteaus paced the Saints (5-3) past the Hawks (0-8) in six innings in Hiram.
Emily Andrews doubled, drove in a run and had team-highs of three hits and three runs. Maddie Andrews had two hits and two RBI. Chloe Croteau had two hits, three RBI and scored three runs, while Piper Croteau and two hits, two runs and three RBI.
Maddie Andrews earned the win with three hitless innings in the circle. Emily Andrews pitched three innings of relief, allowing two hits and no runs.
Bridget Landry and Emily Reynolds had Sacopee Valley’s hits.
SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 9, WINTHROP/MARANACOOK 3: Tyoaka Hodgkin tripled, drove in four runs and scored twice, while Rylee Turner had three RBI and the Phoenix (5-4) beat the Winthrop/Maranacook co-op (2-5) in Readfield.
Samantha Martin and Chloe Ames each had two hits for Spruce Mountain. Turner also pitched a complete game with 10 strikeouts.
Ella Rice, Cyara Harriman and Shaylee Farrington had two hits apiece for Winthrop/Maranacook.
GIRLS LACROSSE
MORSE 20, EDWARD LITTLE 3: Zoe Avery and Zoe Nicholson each scored three goals, pacing a balanced offense for the Shipbuilders (5-3) against the Red Eddies (1-7) in Auburn.
Olive Beeton, Jolee Burchette, Sophie Prager, Riley Walters and Micah Wolf chipped in with two goals apiece.
Edward Little got two goals from Izzy Hayes and one from Lily Frahm.
MT. BLUE 17, HAMPDEN/BREWER/GEORGE STEVENS/HERMON 6: Nine Cougars scored in their 11-goal victory in Farmington.
Lily Huntley netted three goals and three assists to lead the way for Mt. Blue (4-3). Grace Allen (two assists) and Bree Griffin also had three goals each, while Abbi Donald and Addison Decker contributed two apiece, and Alaya Smith, Emma Richter, Allison Casavant and Reese Nye had one each.
Delia Rich scored three and Alivia Veves had two for Hampden/Brewer/Hermon (2-5).
BOYS LACROSSE
WINDHAM 12, LEWISTON 3: Luke Drottar recorded four goals as the Eagles (5-4) beat the Blue Devils (4-4) in Windham.
Colin McKenna, Sean LeBel and Lukas Hammond added two goals apiece.
Collin Michaud, Jackson Bement and Tegan Dugal scored for Lewiston.
