Our president has bragged about the “most successful” first 100 days in presidential history. Successful for whom? The stock market has had its worst performance in a president’s first 100 days since 1974, and gross domestic product dropped over the first quarter of 2025, the first time in years. Of course, the president is not responsible; it’s Joe Biden’s fault.

The chaotic execution of tariffs has created economic uncertainty at home and abroad and fueled international tensions with allies and adversaries. His talk of annexing the Panama Canal, Greenland and Canada has created an anti-American backlash around the globe. He has also helped “Make Canada Liberal Again” in its recent election.

He promised to end the war in Ukraine “in 24 hours,” but Putin continues to bombard Ukraine and slaughter civilians. He stated that there would have been no Oct. 7 Hamas attack on Israel if he had been president, but he has not been able to secure a ceasefire or ensure the release of the remaining hostages.

He promised to promote meritocracy and railed against DEI, but his Cabinet is filled with unqualified individuals who did not merit their positions. Maybe selecting an individual with sexual assault and alcohol abuse allegations, and no real management experience, is a DEI hire.

If all of this is “success,” what will failure look like? George Orwell would certainly appreciate the president’s use of “doublespeak.”
