There’s so much going on these days it’s hard to make sense of it. I’m not sure we can as it changes from day to day, and maybe that’s part of the whole idea.
In fact, I’m writing this letter on Earth Day, but that hardly seems a blip as the stock market has tanked (worst freefall since the 1930s), and a lot of people are trying to tune out the news, as it is all over the place. There’s more chaos, uncertainty, concern and fear than I can recall in my lifetime (and that’s saying something).
Our tradition of free trade with the world is being cut, anyone can now be deported with no trial, we’re checking to see if our Social Security checks are being deposited and we have to because we hear of people who got cut off for no reason, and every day brings reports of our national security being compromised.
I have a cousin in Europe who sent me information that suggests the current president is following a playbook right out of “Mein Kampf.” At this time the current administration is not even following rulings from the Supreme Court.
So what can we do? Talk with our family, friends and neighbors, talk with people who didn’t vote and hear their concerns. Volunteer for local peaceful efforts. Contact our elected officials who haven’t shown the courage to stand up as our good governor has. Public opinion has changed, so keep trying. It does make a difference.
