Some of us remember John Lennon’s (of the Beatles) claim of the band being “more popular than Jesus” and the uproar that followed. Here we are, 59 years later, with a celebrity president who gets more coverage in each 24-hour period, every day, than Jesus or God — and nobody’s objecting. Even the evangelicals. His every word, desire and possible decision permeates society to an extent Paul of Tarsus and the crusaders would have died for.
Unlike prior presidents, who were servants practically invisible during their terms, he calls to mind Joseph Stalin in his omnipresence. Oh, the media are having a heyday reporting and critiquing his every action and statement. One program headlined: “Overwhelmed and exhausted by a million simultaneous outrages.” We are living in a blitzkrieg not experienced since the Soviets took over Russian media. Sadly, one major political party has sworn silent allegiance to a person.
Rather than allowing myself to be overwhelmed, exhausted and unable to join the ever-expanding protests, I contribute to the downfall of an administration committed to the downfall of our Constitution and Bill of Rights. Not only the laws, but morality, sanity and especially compassion, are under siege. My relationships do not include an emotional involvement with Mr. Trump, and never will. Survival requires I ignore him. This is my declaration of independence, and I recommend it to others. I join with all who protest him and his minions and we’ll vote them out.
