NORWAY — The Norway Museum and Historical Society (NMHS) will host its first program of the summer on Tuesday, June 10, at 7 p.m. in their meeting room at 471 Main Street.
Brad Cummings will present a history of the Norway Elementary School, now known as the Guy E. Rowe School, located on Main Street in downtown Norway. Since the school’s beginning as the Norway Liberal Institute in 1856, there have been many changes to the school and the site on which it is located. Some in our community still remember – and attended – Norway High School, built in 1929 and which formed the core of the brick complex of the present-day school building. Many more of us recall spending our elementary school years in the yellow wooden school building, torn down in 1984 to make room for the expansion of the brick Rowe School building, formerly Norway High School, next door.
NMHS especially invites anyone who went to Norway Elementary or the Rowe School to attend and share their own memories of the building. The program is free and all are welcome. Light refreshments will be served at the conclusion.
