LEWISTON — Police are investigating the death of a woman found dead in a home Monday on Old Greene Road.

Local police were first called to 282 Old Greene Road shortly after 5 a.m. for a report that a 42-year-old woman was dead at the home. Shortly after arriving, they called for assistance from Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit, which is standard procedure in a death that may prove suspicious.

Police did not specify a cause of death as they await autopsy results.

Throughout the day, police remained at the home gathering evidence, with the mobile crime scene vehicle parked in front of the home.

Maine State Police wrote in a press release that there is no threat to the public.

The victim’s body was taken to the state medical examiner’s office for autopsy.
