Last week’s Mystery Photo taken in front of the Zadoc Long Free Library at 5 Turner St. in downtown Buckfield provided some interesting answers from people and a few enlightening ones as well. What some thought was a birdbath, or planter, others knew exactly what it was.  The object was a watering station for horses previously located in the middle of the intersection a few hundred yards away where several streets come together. In a random drawing from all the correct entries, Kirk Thurston of Rumford was picked as the winner of a $25 Hannaford Supermarket gift card. He also told us that there is a flintlock rifle at the library from the town’s founders that is fired every year on the Fourth of July.
