BETHEL — The Telstar baseball team scored six runs in the fifth inning to seal a 10-0 mercy-rule victory over Forest Hills in a Class D South quarterfinal on Wednesday, June 11.
Rebels senior Brody Walker threw a perfect five-inning game, allowing no hits, no runs and no walks while striking out nine.
“This was the perfect last home game for the seniors. I couldn’t be more proud of the way they battled today,” said Telstar coach Josh Mowery.
The third-seeded Rebels (12-4) advance to Saturday’s semifinals, where they will face the winner of Thursday’s quarterfinal between No. 2 St. Dom’s (10-6) or No. 7 Carrabec (5-9). Sixth-seeded Forest Hills concludes the season with a 8-7 record.
Telstar first got on the board in the bottom of the third when Bryson Walker brought in a run on a sacrifice groundout, then another run scored on a wild pitch.
Michael Early led the Rebels with two RBI, while Dakota Ciriello and Brayden Easterlin each recorded a hit. At the plate, Telstar drew eight walks, including two each by Brennan Walker and Maceo Bartlett. Brennan Walker also stole four bases, as the Rebels swiped seven bases overall.
Telstar played error-free defense, with Luke Mowery leading the team with nine fielding chances.
