‘Anastasia The Musical’

Maine State Music Theatre starts its season off on a visually stunning and emotionally rich note. “Anastasia The Musical” is set in 1920s Paris during the Russian Revolution. A young woman named Anya is struggling with amnesia, and is desperate to figure out who she is. You’ll hear songs like “Journey to the Past” and “Once Upon a December” as history and fiction coalesce.

Starling with Max García Conover

Starling is a Portland-based folk-pop band, with Sara Hallie Richardson, who sings and plays guitar, alongside Amarantos Quartet members Lauren Genova (violin), Meg McIntyre (violin), Anna Maria Amoroso Noyes (viola) and Hanna Jackson (cello). Collectively, they have performed with artists like St.Vincent, Ray LaMontagne and Halsey, among others. Startling’s ambrosial sound is inspired by their idols, including musicians Stevie Nicks and Joni Mitchell, French heroine Joan of Arc and literary character Anne of Green Gables. Opening the show is Max García Conover.

PortFringe is an annual theater festival with a mission of pushing the boundaries of performing arts. This year’s version takes place over nine days at six Portland locations. There are more than a dozen performances to choose from, including “The Greatest Betrayal” about modern dating, the multimedia, psychedelic play “A Tincture of Time” and a puppet show called “Felt That.”

Great Falls Brewfest

Spend an afternoon in Lewiston at the Great Falls Brewfest. More than 35 breweries and distillers will be on site, including Cushnoc Brewing Co., Olive Pit Brewing, Trinken Brewing Co., Dasch Seltzer and Run Amok Mead. Everyone gets a souvenir tasting glass and VIP ticket holders get access to the festival two hours before everyone else. Live music will be from Goff Hill Rundown and Identity Crisis. L/A Taco Truck, Pinky D’s, Lucky Cat Coffee Truck and Rollin’ in The Dough will keep everyone well fed.

Big Gay Dance Party

7 p.m. Saturday. State Theatre, 609 Congress St., Portland, $25 in advance, $30 day of show, $60 VIP, 18-plus. statetheatreportland.com.

Hit the Portland Pride parade and festival during the day and then, after a disco nap, head to the State Theatre for the Big Gay Dance Party. The hosts are Blake and Kelly from Coast 93.1. The party features special guest Roxxy Andrews from “RuPaul’s Drag Race” along with DJs David Michael and Liz Rhaney. Then burlesque and dancers from Hustle and Flow will also be part of the night’s festivities.

The Skivvies

We’ll be, ahem, brief about this. Good Theater brings Broadway stars Lauren Molina and Nick Cearley into town with their act The Skivvies. The performance is all about stripped-down covers and originals performed by Molina and Cearley, who will be donning their finest underwear and lingerie. They’re bringing special guest “Grey’s Anatomy” actor Eric Altemus along for the romp as well as Good Theater luminaries Steve Underwood, Colleen Clark and Victoria Stubbs.
