Left-handed pitcher Payton Tolle, Boston’s second-round draft pick in 2024, is one of three Red Sox prospects being promoted to the Portland Sea Dogs, according to media reports.
The 6-foot-6 Tolle pitched in 11 games for Class A Greenville and recorded 79 strikeouts in just 49 2/3 innings while posting a 3.62 ERA. He allowed one run or none in eight of his 11 appearances.
He’ll be joined in Portland by another left-hander, Eduardo Rivera, and catcher/first baseman Brooks Brannon.
Rivera, 22, was 3-1 with a 1.61 ERA and 68 strikeouts in 44 2/3 innings for Greenville. Bannon, who turned 21 last month, hit .270 and had a .711 OPS.
• Portland Sea Dogs pitcher David Sandlin was named Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season after throwing the first six innings of a combined no-hitter Sunday against the Akron RubberDucks.
Sandlin, a 24-year-old right-hander, equalled his season high with nine strikeouts. He’s 4-3 this season with a 3.90 earned-run average and 62 strikeouts over 60 innings.
COLLEGES
SAINT JOSEPH’S: Former Major League Baseball pitcher Charlie Furbush and current Windham High boys basketball coach Chad Pulkkinen are among a five-member 2025 induction class for the Saint Joseph’s College Athletics Hall of Fame, the school announced Monday.
Other members of the class are softball pitcher Madylan Kluna of Standish, volleyball player Felicia Wachowiak of Milton, New Hampshire, and golfer Jim Cilley of Belmont, New Hampshire.
The induction ceremony will take place on Friday, Oct. 17.
