LEWISTON — Police made a second arrest tied to a June 17 standoff that lasted five hours before ending with the arrest of a local man, according to a Lewiston Police Department Facebook post.
A 16-year-old male was arrested Thursday in connection with the Pine Street shooting and was charged with reckless conduct with a firearm.
The juvenile was transported to Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland.
Police responded to reports of shots fired around 3 p.m. on June 17 near Webb’s Market on Pine Street.
Witnesses reported hearing as many as 10 gunshots in the area and responding officers found shell casings in the street.
No injuries were reported, but nearby buildings, including a day care, were secured temporarily as a precaution.
The alleged shooter — Whali Ahamed Henry, 34, of Lewiston — reportedly fled the scene and police tracked him down to an apartment at 25 Elm St.
Police set a perimeter and attempted to make contact with Henry who they believed to be armed and barricaded in an apartment.
Nearby residents were instructed to shelter in place.
The five-hour standoff ended peacefully with no shots fired, police reported.
Henry was charged with reckless conduct with a firearm. He was held at the Androscoggin County Jail on $15,000 bail.
Court records show Henry had prior convictions for drug possession and assault and was out on bail at the time of the shooting.
Police commended community members who assisted with the investigation, the release said.
