LISBON — A hazardous materials incident involving pool chemicals prompted emergency services to close a portion of Littlefield Road on Friday, according to a Lisbon Fire Department news release.
Firefighters were called to a medical emergency at 106 Littlefield Road around 7:45 a.m. after a resident was exposed to chlorine-based pool treatment and experienced difficulty breathing, the release said.
Responding paramedics identified the situation as a hazardous materials incident and the resident was transported to Central Maine Medical Center, according to the release.
It was not immediately clear the extent of the unnamed resident’s injuries.
Lisbon public works closed Littlefield Road between Crowley and King roads as a safety precaution.
Lisbon Fire Department requested mutual aid from the Maine Department of Environmental Protection, Androscoggin County Emergency Management Agency and Portland Fire Department, which provided a chlorine meter.
The Maine DEP Hazmat Team and Lisbon firefighters conducted gross decontamination and atmospheric monitoring inside the residence, the release said.
Once hazardous conditions were resolved, the scene was declared safe and roads were reopened.
