Ann Marie Keyo “Meme” Lounsbury
RANGELEY – Ann Marie Keyo “Meme” Lounsbury died peacefully on June 21, 2025, at the age of 91. Born on May 7, 1934 in Mexico, Ann was the daughter of Howard and Marie Keyo and sister to Howard “Howdy” Keyo Jr. From an early age, Ann found joy in the community of Rangeley, where her family spent summers and eventually built a beloved camp on the lake. Rangeley remained the heart of Ann’s life, a place she returned to again and again, and where she ultimately made her home.
Ann moved to Orono during her teenage years and graduated from Orono High School, where she was a spirited cheerleader. It was there she met Merle Lounsbury, a hall of fame athlete, and the love of her life. They were married on June 26, 1959, and shared 63 years of deep devotion, partnership, and mutual care until Merle’s passing in 2022.
Ann earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Maine in chemistry. She was recruited by Dupont and worked in Michigan prior to returning to Maine to marry Merle. She later returned to her alma mater, University of Maine, working in the Engineering Department as the lab manager where she mentored students as an advisor to the Society of Women Engineers. In retirement, Ann and Merle dedicated themselves to community service in Rangeley, including the Ecumenical Food Pantry, Meals on Wheels, and Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church.
Ann and Merle raised three sons, Mike, Jack, and Tim, in Orono. Their sons shared their love of sports, engaging in various athletic activities, with Ann and Merle never missing a game or event. Ann and Merle were also faithful supporters of University of Maine athletics before moving full-time to Rangeley. Later in life, they were ever-present on the sidelines of their grandchildren’s games, and became ardent supporters of Rangeley High School athletics, cheering on the Lakers during home games and tournaments.
Ann and Merle welcomed daughters-in-law Cathy (Tim) and LaDawn (Jack) into their family and were a model of love and commitment for both. Ann cherished her role as “Meme,” not only to her grandchildren, Cameron, Zachary, and Victoria, but also to their close friends and extended family, sharing her love of Rangeley with them. Ann was also “Meme” to Brooke Robertson, Sam Lounsbury, Ana Porter, Angie Vowell, Frank Viscariello, and Ashley Farris, who cherished their visits to the mountains of Maine from Texas. Whether making her signature blueberry pancakes, hosting afternoon “tea time”, or welcoming visitors with warmth and humor, Ann made everyone feel at home.
Ann and Merle retired to Rangeley and were devoted parishioners of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Oquossoc, and always enjoyed breakfast after mass with their fellow parishioners. She would often describe her life in Rangeley as living in paradise. She could be found swimming daily in the lake, tending her flower gardens, golfing at Mingo Springs, or sharing stories with the morning coffee crew. Her spirit was as steady as the mountains and as generous as the lake she loved.
Services for Ann will be at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, 19 Lake St., Rangeley, on Saturday, July 26 at 10 a.m., with a celebration of life to follow.
