SABATTUS — Raquel Welch-Day has been hired as town manager, two months after she resigned from the same position in Mexico after serving there five years.

Sabattus was left without a town manager in December 2024 after Erik Baker resigned. He had also been serving as a police chief. Since then, the town has been relying on interim managers while searching for a permanent one.
They found that in Welch-Day. During her time in Mexico, she also served as Emergency Management Agency director during the flood of 2023, which devastated the downtown,
She was also noted for obtaining a $4.5 million U.S. Department of Agriculture grant for a new fire station.
Welch-Day also was the recipient of the Spirit of America Award for her contributions to the betterment of the town, and was recognized as Employee of the Year for two consecutive years.
With a town manager on board, Sabattus officials are in the process of hiring a new police chief after voters opted in June to keep their Police Department rather than contract coverage with the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department.
