Sen. Collins has been a longtime supporter of and advocate for AmeriCorps.
As a member of the National Service Congressional Caucus, Sen. Collins has actively worked to strengthen AmeriCorps. She co-sponsored legislation to exclude AmeriCorps Education Awards from federally taxable income. In 2021, she joined a bipartisan effort to introduce legislation to expand national service programs, like AmeriCorps and SeniorCorps, to help communities in Maine and throughout the country recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. When the Fiscal Year 2018 budget called for the elimination of AmeriCorps, she voted to continue funding these important programs.
Her steadfast support continues to produce tangible results for Maine communities. Just this week, Sen. Collins announced more than $1.3 million for organizations in Bangor, Orono and South Portland through AmeriCorps Foster Grandparents and Senior Companion programs.
As chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Sen. Collins remains committed to national service programs that have proven to be effective and support those who need it most.
