LISBON — The Town Council voted 5-1 Tuesday renewed Town Manager Glenn Michalowski’s contract for another three years.
Michalowski has served since October 2022. He was assistant town manager for four months under former interim town manager and Police Chief Ryan McGee.
Michalowski had previously served as assistant town manager in Maplewood, New Jersey, a community of 25,000.
A New Jersey native, he graduated from Rutgers University with a degree in public administration and moved to Maine in 2021.
The contract runs through 2028 and will pay Michalowski an annual salary of $118,955.20.
For the past year, Michalowski has struggled to fill a revenue hole caused by an accounting error that has resulted in a sharp tax increase for the coming year. By offering the new contract, most town councilors are supportive of his efforts to fix the problem.
Councilor Normand Albert, however, thought the new contract sends the wrong message.
“I believe this is a tone-deaf measure to bring this forward tonight,” Albert said. “We have a fiduciary responsibility to this community, and by exercising a vote of yes on this contract, we are shirking that responsibility.”
Albert’s attempt to postpone a vote on the contract failed when none of his colleagues seconded his motion.
