
Calvin L. Hunter
AUBURN – Calvin L. Hunter died at home with his family by his side on June 27, 2025. Calvin grew up in Auburn and was the youngest son of Ralph and Inez Shailer Hunter. He graduated from Edward Little High School and joined the Navy soon after.
He spent four years on the USS Gatling and USS Hull as a Machinist Mate 1st class and upon his discharge from the Navy, joined the Army Reserves 619th Transportation Unit where he retired from when he aged out. In June 1960, he married Judith Bean, and they were married for 65 years.
He joined the Auburn Police Department in 1966 and served 14 years before leaving in 1980 to start his own construction company which he ran for 38 years and then proudly sold to his grandson, Travis. He continued to “play” in the pit, as he called it, for several more years.
Calvin is survived by his wife Judy; and dog, Hunter; his children, Debi and husband David, Scott and husband Chad; niece, Lynn Hamlin, nephew, Billy Hunter and wife Katy; grandchildren, Travis, Danielle, Jason and Allie; and great-grandchildren, Paisley, Emerson, Cole, Lincoln, Ethan and Jakob; and many other nieces and nephews.
Calvin was predeceased by his parents, Ralph and Inez Hunter; siblings Helen Fifield and husband Lester, William Hunter and wife Lois “Tootie”; grandson, David Stearns; and nephew, Robbie Butters.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday July 9 at 2 p.m. at Gracelawn Memorial Park, Auburn. Arrangements by The Fortin & Pinette Group, 217 Turner St., Auburn.
