I recently had the pleasure of touring the Maine Military Museum in South Portland, led by director/curator Lee Humiston. It may be the most impressive military museum I’ve ever visited, and that includes the National WWII Museum in New Orleans, the Smithsonian and the D-Day Museum at Normandy.

There are authentic displays from every war — starting with the Revolutionary War — and every square inch is packed with ally and enemy uniforms, weapons and medals and badges. Particularly chilling is the life-size replica of the prisoner of war cell from Hanoi.

Lee has dedicated his life to military history and collections, and Maine is in his debt for promoting patriotism and archival skill. All of us owe him thanks and I join other Maine veterans in wishing him financial success and continued donations of all things military to the museum.
