Richard J. “Dick” Sullivan

SCARBOROUGH – Richard J. “Dick” Sullivan, 82, died Wednesday July 2, 2025, at the Gosnell Hospice House in Scarborough.

Dick was born in Rumford, on February 27, 1943, the son of John and Viola (Legere) Sullivan. He was a graduate of Stephens High School in Rumford and served in the US Army, stationed in Germany. He worked as a truck driver for Circus Time Chips and A&P, before returning to Rumford where he started Sullivan Logging. Dick was one of the last loggers to utilize a team of draft horses to haul wood. Dick finished his working years selling sawmill equipment then pellets which gave him the opportunity to travel the country. He was an avid hunter, loved to fish and was a licensed pilot. He could grow anything in his garden and loved being outdoors. Dick always had a joke to tell or a story to share, he loved to be surrounded by his family especially his seven grandchildren they were all Grampy’s #1.

Dick was predeceased by both his parents, his beautiful and loving stepmother Evelyn Cormier Sullivan, his sisters Viola Sullivan and Joanna Leclerc, nephew Sgt. Lawrence Roukey, niece Karol Sullivan and his most trusted companion and man’s best friend, Digger, his GSP.

Dick is survived by his daughters, Ellen Marie Legere and husband Thomas of Norfolk, VA and Jayne Pasquali and husband Wayne Tardy of South Portland and their mother Sandra Curato, Vinnie Pasquali his forever son-in-law, grandchildren, Cody Allen (Caitlyn), David Jones II (Victoria), Olivia Jones Lusher (Matthew), Ethan Jones, Francesca, Julia, and Vincent Pasquali, great grandchildren Noah and Adeline Allen, nephew Paul Sullivan and niece Dotty Collins, a sister, Elaine Rucker of California, brothers Robert Cormier of North Carolina and James Cormier of Massachusetts and many cousins.

The family would like to thank the staff of Maine Veteran’s Home, where he resided since 2019, for the compassionate care they gave to Dick all these years.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m., Friday July 25, 2025, at the Parish of The Holy Savior St Athanasius St John Church, 126 Maine Ave., Rumford. Interment will be in St John Cemetery in Rumford. Arrangements are under the direction of the Meader & Son Funeral Home Rumford.

In lieu of Flowers, donations in Dick’s memory can be made to the Maine Veterans Home or Gosnell Hospice House.
