Once again, Sen. Susan Collins managed to betray her constituents, despite her ultimate “No” vote on President Trump’s big, mean-spirited, nasty bill, which will severely hurt millions of Americans, and thousands of Mainers.
Collins could have voted against sending the bill to the Senate floor. This would have incurred the ire of the White House. Sen. Collins’ ultimate “No” vote did not hinder the passage of the bill — giving her the political cover she almost always seeks, rather than taking principled, courageous stands on issues affecting her constituents.
Among the many poison pills in this bill are the extreme cuts to Medicaid and to SNAP benefits, harming the poorest among us, whose health and well-being are already compromised by the stresses inherent in their socioeconomic status.
Once again, we can tell Sen. Collins: thanks for nothing.
