The big ugly bill is very unpopular, according to polls. So Republicans are apparently either counting on 2026 voters to have short memories or are planning to pass the blame.
The important thing now is to make sure voters accurately recognize the source of their upcoming suffering. When they still can’t afford a house; when they lose their health insurance; when the hospital near them closes; when as a result their loved ones get sick or even die earlier than they otherwise would; when more people die from floods and heat exposure and wildfires; when government agencies can’t get their jobs done because they have too few employees it will be important for voters to recognize that this is not because of immigrants, and it is not because of judges. It is because of Republicans.
