Bartlett Street was closed from The Italian Bakery at 225 Bartlett St. to 243 Bartlett St.

Masjidu Salaam Mosque has been the site of several shootings among a larger issue of gun violence in recent years.

Lewiston Mayor Carl Sheline acknowledged the troubling nature of shootings in the mosque’s area.

“I appreciate our police department’s quick response,” Sheline said. “We’ve now had several shootings recently in this immediate vicinity,  which is deeply troubling.

“Witnesses and residents who have any information need to come forward and speak to a detective or use the anonymous tip line. Cooperation and communication is critical to solving crimes and holding those responsible accountable,” he said.

Anyone with further information is asked to contact the Lewiston Police Department at 207-513-3001.
