DEAR SUN SPOTS: There will be a Baked Bean Supper at Sixth Street Congregational Church at 109 Sixth St. in Auburn, on Saturday, July 26, from 4:30-6 p.m. The menu includes two kinds of beans, red hot dogs, brown hot dogs, coleslaw, assorted casseroles, assorted desserts and beverages. The cost of the supper is $10 for adults, $5 for children 6 to 12; and children 5 years of age and under are free. — Elizabeth, Auburn

ANSWER: I challenge all you regulars to invite someone new to enjoy the supper with you. I’ll never forget my first baked bean supper at the Bowdoinham Grange. I was a young mom, new in town, and didn’t even know how much I needed the compassionate company of seasoned Mainers. I was taken under their wings and spent many years involved with the Grange. Serving at the suppers and meeting new folks was a delightful era in my life.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: St. Catherine of Sienna Church at 32 Paris St. in Norway will host an Ice Cream Social on Tuesday, Aug. 12, at 6 p.m. Join us as we offer a sweet way for the community to enjoy summer and support a meaningful cause.

We’ll have ice cream with a full selection of toppings, along with a variety of homemade baked goods. The event will also feature lawn games, plus balloons and bubbles for the children, making it a fun occasion for all ages.

The social will take place outdoors at the church, weather permitting. In the event of rain, activities will move indoors. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs.

Admission is by donation, with all proceeds going toward a memorial marker for the graves of the unclaimed ashes recently buried from St. Catherine of Sienna.

ANSWER: This sounds lovely. When I was a youngster, our town held ice cream socials similar to this one. It was always a highlight of the summer in our little village. My sister and I dressed in our Sunday best even though we were prone to get dribbles of chocolate syrup on our good dresses. Have fun, everyone, and here’s to perfect weather!
