There’s a scene in the movie “The American President,” where the White House chief of staff (played by Martin Sheen) berates a White House advisor (played by Michael J. Fox), saying: “The president doesn’t answer to you…” Fox’s character responds by saying: “Oh, yes he does … I’m a citizen, this is my president. And in this country it is not only permissible to question our leaders, it is our responsibility!”
We are in a most dire and tumultuous period in our nation’s history, where this responsibility must be taken seriously. We have seen and witnessed a lack on the part of those in the White House to understand their responsibility to abide by the Constitution.
Where does that leave us? To speak out, hold our elected officials responsible to perform their jobs and make sure that this administration understands that we are their employer.
