‘FERDINAND’ FOR FAMILIES SUNDAY IN DENMARK
The Denmark Arts Center will host an interpretation of the classic story “Ferdinand the Bull” at 4 p.m. on Sunday. The story is set to original music composed by artistic director Eliot Bailen. Susan Rotholz will narrate the story and be accompanied by Bailen on cello.
Written in 1936 by American author Munro Leaf, “Ferdinand the Bull” tells the classic story of a peaceful bull who only wants to smell the flowers in the meadow. But after accidentally sitting on a bumblebee, he goes into a rampage, knocking other bulls out and crashing a tree to the ground. Mistaken as brave and fearless, he is picked to fight in the bullrings. However, Ferdinand was not interested in fighting, only in admiring the beautiful flowers thrown into the ring. So he was taken back home where he once again could sit under his favorite tree and smell the flowers.
Denmark Arts Center is at 50 West Main St., Denmark. For more information, got to www.denmarkarts.org.

MAINE’S GOT TALENT WINNER IN L-A

Amy Stacey Curtis will take the stage 6-7 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, at the Franco Center in Lewiston.
Curtis, the 2025 winner of Maine’s Got Talent, will share her story of resilience and recovery through music.
After a debilitating brain injury caused by untreated Lyme disease in 2017, Curtis faced a long road to recovery — progressing from a wheelchair to a walker, then a cane, and finally back on her feet. Though mobility returned, her speech remained impaired. Searching for a way to rebuild her neural pathways, she turned to music — specifically, the ukulele.
Through weekly practice and the challenge of learning five new cover songs every week, Curtis not only regained her ability to speak normally in calm settings but also discovered a powerful way to connect and inspire others. With over 500 songs now under her belt and one ukulele performance garnering more than 600,000 views online, she is a rising musical voice in Maine and beyond.
