DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’d like to remind your readers that the Great Falls Model Railroad Club will be holding a surplus assets sale this Saturday, July 27, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 144 Mill St. in Auburn.
The sale will feature model railroad equipment in multiple scales and is a great opportunity for hobbyists and collectors. This event is also an important fundraiser for our 501(c)(3) non-profit club, which promotes model railroading, preserves local railroad history and community education of this hobby.
ANSWER: I was introduced to model railroading at a young age through a friend’s older brother and loved helping him build, paint and place the scenery. I’m still intrigued by the hobby. If you’d like to know more about this hobby and future events, go to http://www.greatfallsmodelrrclub.org/.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: The J & O Irish Museum on Main St. (Route 140) in Hartford is now open for the summer on Sunday afternoons from 1-4 p.m. all through July and August.
Our next fundraiser will be the Antique Auto Show on Saturday, Aug. 23, at the East Sumner Congregational Church so please mark your calendars.
Come join us with your antique auto, or just to check out the ones that show up. We had over 50 cars come last year. No entrance fee is charged and the top four, chosen by the attendees, will go home with a basket of homemade jams, relishes and bread.
Thank you, Sun Spots, for all the publicity that you give to the Hartford Heritage Society as we continue to restore the J & O Irish Museum. Also, thank you to everyone out there who joins us for all our fundraising projects.
ANSWER: This historic building was once one of the first stores in the area. It is now used by the Hartford Historical Society as a museum for their collections.
The folks at the museum are always looking for donations, such as antique tools for the barn and items for the store, especially old spice containers or anything that you think would look good on the shelves. The building was a general store that closed in 1953 with living quarters on the second and third floors.
I know this is antique auto show is a tradition and that there is tons of hard work involved that leads to tons of fun. Enjoy yourselves!
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’m looking for a company that takes flat screen TVs for repair or parts. I have four of them that I need to get out of the house.
Thanks for all the help you provide. — No name, no town
ANSWER: You can contact Josh at Creative Cleanouts at 210-5771 with a call or text and he will assist you. He recycles/reuses the parts.
You can also take those TVs to Staples, Lowe’s or Home Depot. Call the location nearest you first to be sure they’re accepting them and at what times. If you’re concerned about what they do with them, just ask.
