RANGELEY — Rangeley Health and Wellness welcomed thousands Sunday to its annual benefit concert featuring Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees Cheap Trick. The band’s high energy was matched by the audience for an interactive show that had everyone on their feet.

First formed in 1970, the band played hits recognizable across generations, such as “I Want You to Want Me” and “Dream Police.”

Since 2007, Rangeley Health and Wellness has been producing annual benefit concerts to support programs and services that help everyone in the community achieve a more active, and healthy lifestyle. The annual concert is the organization’s biggest fundraiser.

Everybody Knows, a Neil Young tribute band, opened the show with timeless songs. The 7-piece band of Maine musicians, formed this year to honor Neil Young’s 80th birthday, covered songs such as “Heart of Gold,” “Rocking in the Free World” and “Harvest Moon.”

Rangeley’s own Nancy Bessey captured everyone’s attention as the band’s harmonicist.

“It is a dream come true for us to open for Cheap Trick. It is a dream come true for us to play in Rangeley. This is such a special place for all of us,” said Jeff Beam, the band’s lead vocalist.

Before the bands took to the stage, Rangeley Health and Wellness board of directors president Lizzy Reinholt explained how the benefit would help the community.

“This event, like all our events, is contributing to help shape the Rangeley community and the region here in the northern part of western Maine,” Reinholt said. “We are building community for children through after school programs and summer camps; senior programs that help connect our elderly to the community and keep them moving; and through our gym and physical therapy programs. So, thank you so much for coming out tonight.”

More than 100 volunteers worked together to ensure the event ran flawlessly. The volunteers, clad in yellow shirts, could be seen directing cars to parking areas, scanning tickets at the gate, and assisting people throughout the day. The youngest volunteer, Alessandra Cerminara, 7, served popcorn and cold drinks to patrons, alongside her grandmother, Patty Cerminara, at the concession stand.

“Sunday’s Cheap Trick concert, with opener Everybody Knows, was nothing short of legendary. Rangeley Health and Wellness came alive with world-class rock and roll, all in support of a great cause. The energy, music, and community spirit made this summer benefit a night to remember, ” said Jen McCormack,  Rangeley Health and Wellness executive director.
