DEAR SUN SPOTS: We have a collection of new building materials we would like to donate to anyone interested. We have contacted Habitat for Humanity but they have most of the items we want to donate. Perhaps someone locally can make use of these items. We are in Lewiston and have 6-plus sets of new louver doors, some still in boxes, a storm door with glass, miscellaneous tools, and accessories such as saw blades, hinges, cabinet knobs, building supplies, mirrors, wallpaper, wood stains and more. If interested, please call me at 784-5953. — Denise, no town

ANSWER: Wow! What a treasure trove of delights! I’m surprised The ReStore wasn’t interested. There is another organization in town, The Last Sheaf, BME at 102 Lisbon St. They’re open Wednesday through Friday from 12 to 4 p.m., and on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. The phone number is 407-4002. You can find more information at https://lastsheafbme.org/.

The mission is to benefit low-income homeowners, and to reduce waste in the environment by repurposing surplus building materials, enabling low-income homeowners to better maintain their homes.

Anyone can shop at the BME and take advantage of the great prices, but the greatest discounts are reserved for low-income homeowners and those most in need.

I wanted to share this information with you just in case you don’t get any calls, but I’m 99.9 per cent you’ll have lots of interest. Let us know what happens.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: We have a large box of velour fabric remnants to give to anyone interested. This is great quality material that was originally from the Health Tex factory in Brunswick. The pieces are large enough for making robes, blankets or for crafting. If interested, please call me at 784-5953. — Denise, no town

ANSWER: Another great offer! It sounds like you’re doing some cleaning out. I know from experience that it feels so good to give things that you no longer need to someone else who can use them. Keep up the good work.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: We received a letter from Central Maine Eye Care dated May 2 stating they were closing their offices. The letter advised us to contact them at 784-1814 if we wanted our records mailed to us.

On May 19, we mailed a request to have them mailed to us, because we had tried calling them numerous times and had to leave messages because no one ever answered the phone.

According to their letter, all requests had to be received by July 28, so it looks like we will not receive our records even though we had contacted them. — Fred, no town

ANSWER: You will — just be patient. Here is the information you need to request the records by mail or by calling: Tenet Health, c/o Records Management, 14201 Dallas Parkway, Dallas Texas 75254. You can also leave a message at 1-469-893-6111. When making the request, include your name, date of birth, address and phone number.

This column is for you, our readers. It is for your questions and comments. There are only two rules: You must write to the column and sign your name. We won’t use it if you ask us not to. Please include your phone number. Letters will not be returned or answered by mail, and telephone calls will not be accepted. Your letters will appear as quickly as space allows. Address them to Sun Spots, P.O. Box 4400, Lewiston, ME 04243-4400. Inquiries can also be emailed to [email protected].
