Isn’t it time to reconsider the subsidies and tax breaks provided to international fossil fuel companies by the federal government?
As we look for ways to lower federal taxes, it’s only fair to eliminate financial support for these global corporations, especially now that credits and tax breaks for solar energy are being removed. While I support local companies in states like Texas, Oklahoma, Maine and Pennsylvania receiving some breaks, especially startups, the major players in the century-old fossil fuel industry do not need our tax dollars to survive and compete.
Let’s stop picking winners and losers among energy sources. Let the free market work for us by means of competition. Let the lowest cost suppliers of energy win — without federal breaks.
Additionally, I advocate for local and sustainable alternatives, such as biofuels in Maine, which can bolster our local economy without relying on excessive government support. We can say “yes” to important local exceptions.
