DEAR SUN SPOTS: I know from reading your column, which I love, that there are many ongoing activities, such as bean suppers, farmers’ markets, etc. and  seasonal festivals.

I’m planning a trip to Maine in September and would love to find a source to discover what’s happening in the area. I know it will be apple season, and I hope there are activities centered around music, shopping, fairs and the like. We are visiting family in the Lewiston-Auburn area. Thank you in advance for your help. — Renee, no town

ANSWER: Your best bet is to go to the websites for both cities (https://www.lewistonmaine.gov/1221/Events-in-Lewiston-Come-to-Lewiston-Do-L  and https://www.auburnmaine.gov/, and surrounding towns.

Look for the area chambers of commerce (https://discoverlamaine.com/) and order your own copy of the “Explore & Discover Guide from this site. Also, just Goggle “Things to do in Lewiston-Auburn this weekend.” So much depends on the weather, your mood, your level of activity, the food you like to eat and how far you want to drive.

September is my favorite month here. Although some venues and restaurants are closed for the season, you can still enjoy hiking, visiting lighthouses, forts, beaches, craft fairs and more. I’m sure your Maine family members can help you find a variety of things to do. Readers, what are your favorite things to do in September?

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’m a local high school art teacher seeking donations of craft supplies. I would love any unwanted wire (thin or soft enough to bend by hand), fabric, yarn, sewing equipment and small scraps of wood. You can contact me at [email protected] and I can meet you for pickup. — Ellen, no town

ANSWER: Schools will be opening before we know it. I’m just sending out another reminder to help this creative teacher.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Dr. Troy Avery provided my eye care at Central Maine Eyecare on Russell St. in Lewiston for years. That practice closed recently, and the website says that Dr. Avery has joined a practice in Augusta, and that he would be pleased to continue providing services to his former Lewiston location patients, but there is no information about how to contact his new office to schedule an appointment. There is no phone number, or even the name of the practice. Can you find that contact information? As always, thank you very much. — No name, no town

ANSWER: This isn’t the first letter I’ve received about this frustrating issue. Although I’ve tried to find the answer to this, I haven’t been successful yet. I do know Dr. Avery is on a break and most likely there will be an announcement soon as to where he will be practicing. I’ll keep my ear to the ground and will also depend on Sun Spotters to let me know if they hear anything.
