Boston Red Sox ace Garrett Crochet is having his next start pushed back at least three days as the team seeks to manage his number of innings pitched.
Crochet’s last start was Saturday against the Dodgers, and his regular spot in the rotation would have been Friday in a series opener against the Houston Astros. Instead, Crochet will be held out of the Astros series, and will likely pitch next against Kansas City on Monday or Tuesday.
Crochet is just 4 2/3 innings away from his career high of 146 innings, set last year with the White Sox. He leads the majors in innings pitched and strikeouts (175). He is tied for the major league lead in innings pitch with San Francisco’s Logan Webb.
