An op-ed in the July 27 Sunday Telegram (“The AI tsunami is rolling in. Are you ready?“) quoted AI expert Sebastian Siemiatkowski as saying “I am of the opinion that AI can already do all of the jobs that we humans do.”
This is exactly the sort of insular, absurd and pompous statement that I would expect from someone who never gets up from the screen in front of him. Clearly he has no appreciation for people who do things like build buildings, dig clams, drive the trucks that collect our trash, mulch hedges or any other work involving using hands for anything other than pressing keys.
